MnGeo Advisory Councils

Two new councils will provide policy advice to the new Minnesota Geospatial
Information Office (MnGeo):
Committees: The two councils will be supplemented and supported
by work teams and technical committees that had previously functioned under the
auspices of the Minnesota Governor’s Council on
Geographic Information. Non-council members are welcome and encouraged to
participate on committees.

State Government Geospatial Advisory Council
This newly created council, authorized by
legislation passed in 2009, advises
the Minnesota Geospatial Information Office (MnGeo) about issues, policies,
priorities, and investments needed to improve state government services through
the coordinated, affordable, reliable, and effective use of geospatial
technology.
Term of office for appointed members: A term expiring on June 30, 2011
Meetings: Held 6 times a year, with the first meeting likely to be in
October 2009 in Saint Paul. Appointing Authority: Commissioner of Administration
Compensation: None
Vacancies: Up to 11 representatives from state agencies or state
Constitutional Offices.
In addition to the appointed members, the council includes representatives of
the Office of Enterprise Technology and MnGeo as voting, ex-officio members, and
a representative from the Statewide Geospatial Advisory Council as a non-voting,
ex-officio member. It will be chaired by the state’s chief geographic
information officer.
Statewide Geospatial Advisory Council
This newly created council, authorized by
legislation passed in 2009, advises
the Minnesota Geospatial Information Office (MnGeo) about issues, policies,
priorities, and investments needed to improve services statewide through the
coordinated, affordable, reliable, and effective use of geospatial technology. The council must represent a
cross-section of organizations that include counties, cities, universities,
business, nonprofit organizations, federal and state agencies, and other
stakeholder groups that benefit from geospatial technology.
Term of office for appointed members: A term expiring on June 30, 2011
Meetings: Held 4 times a year, with the first meeting likely to be in
October 2009 in Saint Paul.

In the event that qualified applications are not received for any of the
target categories, the appointing authority reserves the right to substitute an
At-Large representative for that category.
In addition to the appointed members, the council will include the state
chief geospatial information officer as a non-voting, ex-officio member.
