Stream Flow in Minnesota
These maps show stream flow levels and general patterns in stream flow
throughout the state of Minnesota from 1991 to present. Data for each of
Minnesota's 81 major watersheds are gathered by 89 gaging stations (84
operated by the U.S. Geological Survey and the remaining 5 operated by
the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources' Division of Waters) and
are analyzed by the Stream Flow Unit of the Minnesota Department of Natural
Resources to produce weekly stream flow reports during the open water season
from late March to October. These reports are used by the Division of Waters
to provide an overview of current stream flow conditions throughout the
state. During periods of low stream flow, streams are further monitored
to ensure that adequate stream flow is maintained to protect fish and wildlife
and supply hydroelectric power plants and municipal water needs.
The Land Management Information Center would like to thank the
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources' Stream Flow Unit for providing
data for these maps. (Most of the maps in this library range between 12
K and 14 K in size.)
