Instructions

Datanet’s GeoAnalysis tool searches for Minnesota geographic units that meet certain conditions such as size, population change, or income level. Users can select from a list of all geographic matches or highlight individual places of interest. More than 450 variables from the 2000 census can be displayed, mapped or downloaded in a CSV file.
Some search conditions are not available at every level of geography.

Setting Conditions

1. Select the desired unit of geography (i.e. census tracts).

2. Select a condition for searching (i.e. population below poverty level).

3. Select minimum or maximum the range for the condition (i.e. minimum of 25%).

4. Select either the most requested list (26) or extended list (425) of Census 2000 variables.

Report Option

1. Select report and a list of matches will be shown (74 tracts). Check the box at the top left of the page to work with all tracts or highlight individual tracts by holding down the control key.

2. Select up to ten variables from the census and push the report button. A matrix showing the geographic units and census data will be displayed.

3.Select the download (at the top of the screen) to download a CSV file to your computer.

Mapping Option

1. Select the ‘Map’ button to show a map of the jurisdictions meeting your selected conditions.

2. Click on the map to zoom in closer. Select the ‘Pan’ option and click on the map to move the map extent in any direction.
