Mapping Services

LMIC has served as Minnesota's GIS mapping center for almost thirty years. Building upon our experience and reputation for high quality cartographic design and map production, we also take advantage of new technologies to design and implement custom built web mapping applications.

Web Mapping Services

Our web mapping services allow custom maps to be built, viewed and printed over the Internet. Some of these services also allow data to be downloaded. Currently available services are listed below, but check back often to see what's new.

  • logoMnMapper. Create and print a simple state map with your choice of features including county boundaries, county seats, highways, major lakes and rivers, and Indian reservation boundaries.
  • Original Public Land Survey maps. View or download digital copies of historic Minnesota township plat maps collected during the original Public Land Survey.
  • Minnesota land use and land cover. View a snapshot of land use for the entire state and individual counties using this interactive service that produces maps and statistical profiles from land use data collected during the 1990s.
  • Map and download. Use these mapping services to view data and images at your desktop, print them as simple maps, and download data you can use with GIS software.
  • Socioeconomic data and maps. Use Datanet to compile custom reports and maps of demographic and socioeconomic data about Minnesota, including details from the 2000 Census.

Map Products

Although most of our maps are designed to meet the needs of specific clients, we also offer useful maps to the general public.  Some of the maps listed below may interest you, but contact us if you don't see what you are looking for.

  • County land use and cover maps. These large format color maps of individual counties use the most recent and detailed data sources available for the entire state. The maps feature up to 16 classes of land use; they also show roads, minor civil division boundaries and public land survey sections.
  • Telecommunications map. This map shows the boundaries of more than 700 telephone exchange service areas in Minnesota in addition to county boundaries, area codes and Local Access and Transport Area zones.
  • School district maps. These large format maps of individual school districts show public school attendance areas and most school building locations. Additional features include minor civil division boundaries, public land survey section lines, highways, roads, rivers and lakes. Many, but not all, roads are labeled.
